FIRE ALERT AND EVACUATION

PROCESS TO BE FOLLOWED BY ALL CHURCHWARDENS, PCC MEMBERS AND SIDES PEOPLE

AT ALL RELIGIOUS AND SOCIAL PUBLIC EVENTS


CHECKS TO BE MADE BEFORE ANY EVENT

  • Remove any obstruction in both fire exits
  • Ensure that all exit doors open freely
  • Check that all fire extinguishers are in position
  • If candles are to be used, ensure that established process is to be followed
  • Tour of premises to ensure there are no fire risks

ACTION IN THE EVENT OF FIRE

  • Assess the severity of the fire
  • Attempt to extinguish using fire-fighting equipment
  • Alert the person conducting the service or event to make appropriate announcement – either confirmation that the situation is under control or to evacuate the building
  • One person should call the fire brigade, while others carry out the following :-
    • Assist the evacuation of the building, in particular, the disabled, elderly and very young.
    • Direct people to the assembly point at the church car park
    • As far as safety will allow, ensure that everyone has left the building
    • Check with everyone at the assembly points that they know that the people they came with or sat next to are out of the building
